DEON ARTIST OF THE MONTH

Deon Golatt, also known as, Deon The Don was born and raised in Augusta, Georgia. At a very early age, Deon started writing rhymes and performing several times for his third grade class. Deon started rapping in the early eighties while being influenced by Run DMC, L.L. Cool J, and Rakim. As the music shifted in the late eighties, to a more underground hardcore rap, Deon became influenced by N.W.A. and Ice Cube.

Growing up during the crack epidemic had given Deon a good hard look at the harsh reality of the streets. With Gangster Rap taking over the mainstream and the streets filled with Crack and guns, the gangster image and sound was the perfect match for this young, up and coming artist. Deon began penning more hardcore reality type lyrics and envisioning one day he could be on the same level as the great MC’s. In the late 90’s, Deon formed his first group with three other family members calling themselves “Golatt Boyz” by using their government last name. After a few failed studio sessions the members eventually disbanded and he formed a group with two child hood friends calling themselves “Die Hard” in the early 2000’s. They completed their first underground album titled “Retribution” but it was never released to the public.

Die Hard’s song “Big Doggs” was featured on Get Low Recordz compilation G Bundle Presents “Southwest Bosses” Vol. 1. After the group disbanded, Deon began focusing on a solo career and completed his first solo album titled “Premeditated” in 2006, later released digitally in 2012. Forming his own imprint Deon Records, along with his son Young Tay, he began to focus on building his brand. Under Deon Records in 2010, Deon put together his first mixtape titled “The Introduction” featuring his first solo act and son Young Tay. Deon followed in 2011 as the Executive Producer on Tay’s mixtape release titled ”Southview Takeover” Vol.1.

Three years later, Deon reunited with a member of the Golatt Boyz and began working on a collaboration album titled “Over Due” (Deon & GB). The pair finished their project in early 2017 and began promoting the single titled “Itz All Luv”. Deon is currently working on a 2017 solo project EP titled ”One Man Gang”. This EP will be his first solo release in years and will be released under Deon Records/Ruthless Propaganda Records. Having his hands tied with a lot of releases for 2017 and beyond DEON RECORDS IS A FORCE TO BE RECKONED WITH!
