Reviews – MC Shan – Bars Over Bullshit

First off I want to congratulate Shan on dropping his first album in almost 30 years. Bars Over Bullshit is his first full length album since 1990s Play It Again Shan! After interviewing Shan several times and hearing various tracks like Let’s Bring Hip Hop Back or last year’s KRS-Diss Revenge of the Walking Dead I already knew he was gonna bring some lyrical heat on his new album and that is exactly what he did all while touching on real life shit!

This album is killing anything out in the Lamestream. Everyone is talking about boring Jay-Z but his new album ain’t shit compared to this! Right from the jump he brings you that real with songs like One Man Lives where in the hook he says “One Man Lives While Another One Dies/One Man Falls So Another Can Rise.” The album is full of street rhymes, gritty tales, and real life topics that many can relate to. To me that is what makes a good artist, you have to be able to relate to the people. On Bring Back MC Shan he displays his lyrical abilities and proclaims his return. In the song Mutha Fucka he fittingly says Mutha Fucka about 3 dozen times which would make the great Joe Pesci proud. This shit is gritty as fuck!

He revisits The Bridge with a dope Rock Re-Mix full of heavy guitar which gives you a glimpse of the MC Shan we all know from the 80s. That’s what I love about Bars Over Bullshit because he can take you back in time on one song then on the next give you some 2017 shit with brutal bars to destroy emcees of this era. The Song Who The Fuck Are You he gives you a glimpse of that rapid fire flow proving he can do it all. I’m so glad the homie dropped this album as it is very much needed. I hope the Hip Hop community shows this project alotta love as it is one of the biggest releases in the genre in 2017 hands down! I’ve been bumpin’ the album religiously for the last week, you definitely dont have to skip through anything just hit play and let that mutha fucka ride!
